Leslie Graham, Unravel Travel TV, visits Wat Rong Khun, Chiang Rai’s White Temple in Thailand

Leslie Graham of Unravel Travel TV visited Wat Rong Khun in Chiang Rai, northern Thailand. Known internationally as the White Temple, it is one of the region’s most distinctive landmarks.

The temple’s white exterior and intricate sculptural details set it apart from more traditional temple designs. Sunlight catches the mirrored glass incorporated into the decoration, giving the complex a bright, reflective appearance. Wat Rong Khun was designed and built by Chiang Rai artist Chalermchai Kositpipat.

A bridge leads visitors towards the main building. Its design carries Buddhist symbolism: the crossing represents the journey from the cycle of rebirth towards enlightenment. The white colour is associated with purity, while the mirrored details represent wisdom.

Wat Rong Khun combines religious themes with contemporary artistic expression. Its elaborate forms and carefully composed details make the site as much an art experience as a place of worship. Visitors should remember that it remains a religious site and follow local guidance while exploring the grounds.

The visit offered Leslie Graham an opportunity to experience one of Chiang Rai’s best-known attractions and to see how contemporary Thai art can interpret Buddhist ideas through architecture. The Tourism Authority of Thailand lists Wat Rong Khun among the province’s cultural highlights.
