Cebu, in the Philippines, is preparing to take center stage in the global tourism arena as the host of the ASEAN Summit and the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2026. The Department of Tourism, together with its Central Visayas Regional Office, convened tourism leaders and stakeholders for a meeting (27 August 2025) at the Radisson Blu Hotel Cebu to align strategy and plans ahead of the event.
The gathering brought together national government representatives, local government units, universities, and accommodation providers—all key contributors to delivering a smooth and successful hosting experience for delegates and international press.
Representing Regional Director Judy Dela Cruz Gabato, DOT Central Visayas OIC Division Chief Riza Marie Macaibay opened the forum and highlighted the shared responsibility in ensuring Cebu meets world-class standards. Additional speakers included OIC Director Alex Macatuno from the Office of Tourism Development Planning, Research, and Information Management; Jem Turla from OTDPRIM–IRD; and Michaela Ochoa, Acting Head of the International Promotions Division for the North America market. Their updates focused on infrastructure readiness, destination development, and international coordination.
As one of the most significant tourism gatherings in Southeast Asia, ATF 2026 is expected to welcome ministers, industry leaders, global buyers, and media from across the region and beyond. The session concluded with a united commitment to collaboration—reinforcing Cebu’s readiness to host and its role in shaping the future of ASEAN tourism.
Unravel Travel TV will be among the international media attending, with coverage led by Leslie Graham, reporting on key developments, announcements, and destination features throughout ATF 2026.
Cebu’s hosting marks an important milestone, showcasing Central Visayas as a destination where global events meet Filipino hospitality.
