The Global MICE Collaborative Certificate Session will provide event professionals with practical training across conferences, exhibitions and incentive travel during IT&CMA and CTW Asia-Pacific 2026 in Bangkok. The three-hour session will take place on Tuesday, 22 September 2026, from 09:00 to 12:00 in Lotus Suite 11, Level 22, at the Bangkok Convention Centre at CentralWorld. Open to all event delegates with advance registration, the course is designed to provide a foundation in the three main event types that support the international meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions sector.
Three areas of MICE expertise
The certificate session is delivered through the Global MICE Collaborative, a partnership between the International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE), Meeting Professionals International (MPI) and the Society for Incentive Travel Excellence (SITE).
Each organisation contributes specialist knowledge from a different part of the business events industry.
Participants will examine the strategy behind meeting design and delivery, including the decisions required to turn an organisational objective into a structured conference programme. The course will consider how content, venue selection, participant engagement, logistics and event execution contribute to a successful meeting.
The incentive travel section will explain how carefully designed travel programmes can motivate employees, recognise achievement and support wider organisational goals. SITE describes incentive travel as a performance-enhancement tool used to encourage workplace behaviours linked to clearly defined targets. It can also strengthen relationships, engagement and loyalty when programmes are aligned with corporate objectives. SITE: What is Incentive Travel?
The exhibitions component will examine the commercial role of trade shows and exhibitions. Participants will consider the value proposition for organisers, exhibitors, buyers and host destinations, as well as the importance of creating productive environments in which suppliers and customers can meet.
Together, the three modules will provide participants with a broader understanding of how conferences, exhibitions and incentive events differ, while also showing how the sectors connect.
Practical training for a major global industry
Professional knowledge is increasingly important as business events become more complex. Event planners must manage participant expectations, technology, budgets, accessibility, sustainability, safety, content and measurable business outcomes.
The economic scale of the sector also underlines the need for trained professionals. The Events Industry Council’s 2026 Global Economic Significance of Business Events Study found that 1.65 billion people participated in business events worldwide during 2025. These events generated US$1.3 trillion in direct spending.
When direct, indirect and induced activity was included, the sector supported US$3.1 trillion in business sales, contributed US$1.8 trillion to global GDP and sustained 24.2 million jobs. Events Industry Council Economic Significance Study
The Global MICE Collaborative course places these figures in a practical context. It introduces the principles required to design events that create value for participants, organisations, exhibitors, sponsors and destinations.
Course highlights
The programme will combine industry knowledge with practical learning. Its main elements include:
- Experienced instruction: Participants will learn from professionals with direct experience of event planning, sales and destination management.
- Practical assignments: Case studies and hands-on exercises will allow participants to apply the principles discussed during the session.
- Meeting design and execution: The course will examine how objectives, programme content, logistics and participant experience can be brought together in a coherent event plan.
- Incentive travel strategy: Participants will consider how incentive programmes can be connected to employee motivation, recognition and organisational performance.
- Exhibition business models: The programme will introduce the commercial purpose of exhibitions and the different forms of value they create for organisers, exhibitors and visitors.
- Networking opportunities: The classroom setting will allow participants to exchange ideas and develop contacts with other MICE professionals.
- Career development: The certificate can help participants strengthen their understanding of the industry and identify areas for further professional study.
- Resource materials: Participants will receive access to supporting resources, templates and planning tools for use after the course.
The programme will be particularly relevant to professionals entering the MICE sector, as well as people working for hotels, venues, convention bureaux, destination management companies, travel organisations, associations and specialist event suppliers.
It can also help experienced practitioners develop a clearer understanding of MICE disciplines outside their principal area of work.
Expertise from IAEE, MPI and SITE
The Global MICE Collaborative was established to combine the professional resources of three international industry associations. It provides a coordinated approach to education, workforce development, research and destination capability, particularly in emerging MICE markets. Global MICE Collaborative information from IAEE
IAEE represents more than 12,000 exhibition professionals in over 50 countries. Founded in 1928, it supports organisations and individuals involved in producing and servicing exhibitions and trade shows. About IAEE
MPI was founded in 1972 to connect and support professionals working across the meetings and events industry. Its education portfolio includes certificate programmes, conferences and professional development resources. About MPI
SITE was founded in 1973 and is the international business events association dedicated specifically to incentive travel. Its membership includes professionals working for corporations, agencies, airlines, cruise companies and suppliers across the destination-management sector. About SITE
By bringing these areas of expertise together, the certificate session gives participants an introduction to the full MICE ecosystem rather than concentrating on only one type of event.
