Thai Literature Travels Beyond Borders at the 31st National Book Fair
Thailand’s contemporary literature is reaching new audiences across languages and cultures through translation and international literary exchange. These efforts were highlighted at the message TRAVELS, the exhibition of the Contemporary Literature Support and Promotion Project for International Dissemination by the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture (OCAC), Ministry of Culture, held at Booth A08 as part of the 31st National Book Fair from 23 October to 1 November 2026 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok.
The exhibition showcased project achievements, including 49 Thai literary works translated into foreign languages and 12 works translated from foreign languages into Thai, alongside efforts to promote contemporary literature at 7 book festivals in Thailand and abroad. The project’s translated works span a diverse range of languages and literary genres, including novels, short stories, nonfiction, young adult literature, graphic novels, and poetry. Works translated from Thai into foreign languages include English, Chinese, Tamil, Vietnamese, and Malay, while works translated from foreign languages into Thai include English, Japanese, Malay, and Burmese.
Beyond the exhibition, activities included author meet-and-greets, signing sessions, workshops, and discussions bringing together writers, translators, and professionals from the publishing and content industries. These exchanges explored how translation, publishing networks, and book festivals can help literature cross language barriers and reach wider audiences.
The exhibition took place amid the lively atmosphere of the National Book Fair, which brought together 319 publishers and organisations and attracted readers across generations. Beyond encouraging reading, these platforms also strengthen connections among authors, publishers, and the wider creative sector.
