Aman Resorts has opened its first city centre hotel in the United States. Plans for Aman New York were first announced in 2020, with the property being housed within the Crown Building on the corner of 57th Street and Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. The Beaux-Arts building celebrated its centenary last year, and was formerly the first home of the city’s Museum of Modern Art.
Belgian architect-designer Jean-Michel Gathy has been responsible for the transformation project, which has created 83 suites and 22 branded residences, with the suites claimed to be “among New York’s largest”.
Each suite has a functioning fireplace, oval bathtubs, marble rain showers and double vanities, and Aman said that “Inspired by the airy architecture of Aman’s properties in Southeast Asia, pairs of bespoke double-pivot doors have been created to form bespoke central partitions, allowing guests to transform the atmosphere, creating a lofty open-plan layout or intimate private spaces”.
Facilities include a Jazz Club, and a three-floor, 2,300 sqm Aman Spa with 20-metre indoor pool, Banya and Hammam rooms and private outdoor terraces with hot and cold plunge pools.
Meanwhile, on the 14th-floor, dining choices will include Italian restaurant Arva and Japanese ‘washoku’ style eatery Nama, as well as a Wine Library and wraparound garden terrace.
Aman launched its first urban hotel in Tokyo in 2014, and now has over 30 hotels and resorts in 20 destinations across the world, with a further seven under construction.
Aman New York will join Amangani in Jackson, Wyoming, and Amangiri in Canyon Point, Utah, as the third property by the group in the US.
